Mercedes-Benz S-Class’s mission, is to lead!

The test drive experience of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is completely different from most other cars. Usually, people will want to sit at the seat behind the shotgun seat, which is the seat usually for the most important person, and it is exactly the seat that shows the comfortability and technology the best.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The S-Class, was born in 1957 and it is dedicated to become a car with top design concepts, luxurious configurations, and best riding experience. And in the times of the following 70 years, the S-Class has never failed the expectations of Mercedes-Benz.

As time went by, the significance of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is no longer just a top-level sedan, it has become a powerful remark of the luxury positioning of the Mercedes-Benz brand with its luxury, technology, and leading positioning. More often, the meaning of S-Class is not limited to luxury, but is to lead.

To lead the development direction of the automobile industry, to lead people's aesthetics of the top cars, to lead the evolution of automobile technology, and also to lead a new journey in the future that combines environmental-friendly with travel comfort, technology and safety, and these are the brand new eleventh-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class’s mission.

No doubt that this new generation of S class sedan still has all the characteristics that a top luxury sedan should have. Such as, the 3216mm super-long wheelbase, slender and beautiful body lines, and the top materials (leather and wood), the exquisite and elegant style presented by the craftsmanship, and incredible sound-proof for the interior. But these do not include the brand new sense of formality presented by Mercedes-Benz on this new S-Class sedan.

This formality, is coming from its digital headlights that like shooting stars. If we say that the headlight we discussed in the past were more about the design (one-piece or split), the materials, and the visual effects brought about by its appearance. Then, S-Class’s headlight with a large number of technological elements and 2.6 million pixel digital micro-mirror technology can truly project on the road, allowing the car to interact with the user.

This formality, is coming from the atmosphere of the light strip that is composed by 263 LED lights, and the fragrance inside the car; it is coming from the Voice of Berlin 4D surround sound system with 31 speakers, and the theme of "Heart Rejuvenation" that can be presented on multiple screens in the car. Comfortable seat space to put your legs and seats with massage function can truly realize the harmony and unity of hearing, sight, smell and feeling. Takes the driving experience of the driver to a new level!

This sense of formality seems to be based on technology at first glance, but more importantly, it is Mercedes-Benz’s understanding of luxury cars and the needs of riders. Because only a car brand with high-level aesthetics (and technology) like Mercedes-Benz can create such a high-level sense of formality with beauty. Correspondingly, only car owners who have truly experienced it can understand the high-level aesthetics of Mercedes-Benz.

In 1986, Mercedes-Benz launched the "Prometheus" project. Borrowing the name of the Greek god who stole fire for humans in ancient Greek mythology, Mercedes-Benz began to invest in research on autonomous driving technology. Nine years later, in 1995, Mercedes-Benz had almost completed the full automatic driving of 1,678 kilometers.

Nowadays, digital technology is no longer the same as 35 years ago. The concept of smart cities and smart travel has been in all aspects of people's lives. As one of the most important participants in smart cities, cars will truly link people and cities. Based on the recognition of this concept, Mercedes-Benz has created a more intuitive, efficient and convenient digital interactive experience for the new S-Class.

On this new S-Class car, the physical buttons have been greatly removed, replaced by  many screens that participate in the interaction between people and cars. The user can read the driving status of the vehicle on the 3D dashboard, which will truly immerse you in the control of the vehicle status; You can also use the vertical screen on the right hand side to carry out real-time navigation, so that the real visual perception solution is not only read by the electronic control unit (ECU), but also for you to read by yourself.

What’s more, if you can’t turn your head and look at the vertical screen while driving, the real scene can also go through the head-up display system, a huge display area will be projected on the actual environment 10 meters from the front windshield in real time, accompanied by augmented reality arrow indications, which is full on feeling of science fiction.

Of course, the old human-vehicle interactions are still there, you can wake up the vehicle by voice "Hello, Mercedes-Benz"; and you can use body gestures to control some configurations such as sliding sunroof sunshades.

It is exactly because of Mercedes-Benz's determined exploration in the fields of human-digital technology  interaction that the driving experience of the new S-Class car is so smooth.

Just in late July, Mercedes-Benz released another brand new strategy. Under which, the company is determined to embrace the electrification era and continue to increase the proportion of electrified models from 2025. Obviously, in today's automobile world, Mercedes-Benz is more actively enhancing its contribution to environmental protection.

In fact, in May 2019 Daimler AG already released "Vision 2039" to demonstrate the company's keen insight and active actions in the field of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking.

The new S-Class sedan is produced at "Factory 56" in Sindelfingen, Germany,   Mercedes-Benz’s world’s first carbon-neutral plant with zero carbon dioxide emissions, and uses the fully digital MO360 production system to ensure higher production efficiency and product quality. In this factory, in each new S-Class car, more than 98 kilograms of components are made of resource-saving materials, and about 40 kilograms of components are made of recyclable raw materials.
