The Secrets Behind The Logos of Automobile Giants

Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, BMW, we see the logos of those automobile giants running on the roads everyday, but do you know what do those logos mean? Today we are here to reveal the secrets behind these shiny marks on the car!

 

Audi

The four rings represent the 4 companies that combined into AUDI. Those companies used to be manufacturers of bicycles, motorcycles, and small trucks.

 

Mercedes-Benz

In June 1909, Daimler registered the tripoint star as the car logo for Benz, the 3 strikes representing the mechanization on land, water and air. In 1916,  they added a circle and 4 small stars, and the words "Mercedes" underneath with the meaning of “mercy” or “happiness”.

 

VOLKSWAGEN

VOLKSWAGEN

In German, VOLKSWAGEN means Volks Wagenwerk, which is literally “people’s car” and the logo is taking the initials of “V’ and “W”, which also looks like three “V”, representing the company’s wish and pursuit for victory.

 

Toyota

Toyota started using this three-oval logo at the beginning of 1990. The biggest oval represents the earth, and the other two ovals combined together with a look of a letter “T” as the initial of Toyota. It shows Toyota’s determination to be an out-standing automobile maker in the world and also connecting with all the customers worldwide.

 

FORD

The logo of Ford is simply the letters of Ford with a navy background. The founder of FORD, Henry Ford had been a true animal lover since childhood and he designed the letters in a form of a white rabbit.

 

BMW

The white and blue in the circle represent the sky and clouds, and the long history of this company which had a leading position in the aviation engine area. It also symbolizes the company's consistent purpose and goal: in a broad time and space, to meet the greatest wishes of customers with advanced and exquisite technology, the latest concepts. It reflects the company's vigorous momentum and ambition.

 

ROLLS-ROYCE

The logo of ROLLS-ROYCE ­is two cross-folded Rs, representing the harmony between people. Apart from this logo, ROLLS-ROYCE has another logo of a flying man which is inspired by the 2,000-year-old statue of the goddess of victory at the Louvre in Paris.

FERRARI’s logo is a jumping horse. During The First World War, there was a pilot who performed very well in Italy and he had such a jumping horse on his plane as a lucky charm. After winning the initial racing competition, the pilot’s parents, a couple of earls, suggested that Ferrari should also print this lucky jumping horse on it’s car. And after the pilot died in the war, they changed the color of the horse to black. The golden background is the color of the Canary in Modena, where the company is located.

The former of Peugeot was a small workshop opened by the Pierre brothers of the Peugeot family in the early 19th century who produced saws, springs and other iron tools.This metal look lion is the symbol of its origin place -- Sochaux, it represents power and invincibility. When the first Peugeot car came out in 1890, the company decided to continue using this "Lion" trademark to show its high quality.

 

ASTONMARTIN

The Aston Martin logo is a flying roc, marked with the English words Alston and Martin. It means that the company, like this huge bird, has a sprint speed from the sky and lofty ambitions.

Lincoln is the second brand owned by Ford Motor Company. This Star-shaped cross symbolizes dignity. Lincoln was founded by Henry Leland in 1907 and was acquired by Ford Motor Company in 1922. At the beginning, it was the business of producing aircraft engines. Lincoln is the first brand named after a president and is a luxury car producer exclusively for presidents and heads of state. Because of the outstanding performance, elegant styling and extraordinary comfort of Lincoln’s car, it has been selected by the White House as the presidential car since President Franklin Roosevelt in 1939.

The symbol of CHEVROLET is a bow-styled cross, and Chevrolet came from the name of the Swiss racer and engineer Louis Chevrolet.

LEXUS takes its initial “L” as its logo.

 

LAMBORGHINI ­

LAMBORGHINI ­

It is a bull that is full of power and ready to attack or defend. It means never giving up and never being tamed, which also shows the products’ features of LAMBORGHINI, sport cars with big power and high speed.

 

VOLVO

VOLVO

It has two parts: The name of the brand and the rings. The rings present the wheel and with an arrow pointing upper right. And  VOLVO also means “rolling forward” in Latin. Together they combined the meaning that Volvo Cars' wheels are rolling forward and the company is prosperous and promising.

 

Renault

It was founded  by the three Renault brothers in Boulogne-Billancourt, France in 1898,. It is one of the oldest car companies in the world. The main products are business cars and sports cars.

The Renault logo is composed of four rhombus, which symbolizes the integration of the three Renault brothers and the automobile industry, which also means Renault's abilities to survive and develop in an infinite four-dimension.
