The material is very good and very strong. I can use it for 100 years .with these issues am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this rack to the other 4 runners. The true test will be this spring when I go cross country with cargo in the rack.
I like it but it has a plastic piece that holds the bars together (cheap) should be the same material as the bars. The bolts that hold the rack to the roof are exposed should have some kind of cover over the bolts to keep the rain and snow off of them
