We, as human, tend to be individualistic. We are always seeking ways to differentiate from one another. We tend to not buy the same clothes that our siblings already own. Even if we end up buying very popular items, we tend to look for ways to make our own stand out. For instance, Apple’s iPhone is a very popular smartphone; millions of people own it but owners try to differentiate themselves by putting a phone case on it to show their individuality, their personality.
As we often do at NINTE, we had a brainstorming about it and reached a conclusion that it also extends to cars. We tend to buy cars that suit our personality and if the car in itself is of neutral genre, we tend to rely on simple customization to make it feel like “our own”. We curated a list of car types (very subjective list, be aware) that may reflect the personality of its owner. Plus, we give advice on customization to do to reach the same style.
Sport type
This first category is very straightforward. The one who likes to practice sport and is very active in his life. The one who tends to always go out playing ball on the field or just go to the gym. They tend to like the adrenaline that comes with speed thus a sport car may be more suited for them. A sport car is not always the most affordable so having a car that just has the look might do the trick. A front bumper lip and a rear spoiler is what we suggest to make your car feel like it belongs to you, a sportsman.
The VIP/Business type
This second category is also very common. The businessman that drives his black Mercedes to work, or an official member of the government being escorted to a certain place. If you are of the business type, our first tip is to choose a muted or dark color for your car. The business type does not like to get attention. Also, a black tinted window may also be more convenient and give a premium look. As for the interior, we suggest a leather seat cover set plus a good quality floor mat. Never underestimate the impact of a good interior.
The adventurous type
Do you like going to undiscovered places? Do you like trekking and experiencing new things? This is where you fall into. Off-road cars are what reflects most the personality of the adventurous type. A pickup truck such as the Ford F150 or the Chevy Silverado 1500 is also suitable. It has room for all your adventure gear and it can drive through any kind of road. As for the customization you can do, maybe a front bumper lip for an added protection to your car.
The urban type
We had issues on trying to find a name for this category. It is basically for the one that pays a lot of attention to external look and tend to follow trends. A good compact car like the Toyota Camry or a sedan like the Ford Focus sedan may be suitable for them. The type of the car does not matter as much as the customization they can do. They can put a front grille for an immediate look uplift but all the regular customization (front bumper, side skirts, rear spoiler) will definitely also work.
The “Techie” type
This one just got popular recently. Some people are not really attracted to cars in general but the recent advancement in car technology got their interests. The “Techies” are mostly interested in the car’s feature: self-driving, can it be linked with their smartphone (can it be CONTROLLED with their smartphone?!) and all the smart features rather than the car. There is no customization they can do for that look; their best bet is to just buy an electric vehicle like the more affordable Tesla Model 3. The girly type
This one is a sub-part of the girl car enthusiast communities but don’t get me wrong, not all girls are the girly type. It is one that likes flashy accessories that may be considered extravagant for some. Flashy colors such as pink, yellow or purple will reflect their personality. Moreover, shiny car accessories, fake diamond covers may also help in achieving the look. Lastly, you can add these custom eyelashes to your car for the complete girly type makeover.
That concluded our very subjective car – personality matchup list. It is very general and a lot are not included on the list. It is impossible to compile every shade of human’s personality in a list. However, one thing is certain, we like to differentiate ourselves from others and we do so in our choice of cars but also in the customization that we do afterwards.
